Steve Schleicher is the prosecutor of the trial, which takes place at the Hennepin County Courthouse.

Steve Schleicher is an experienced trial and appellate lawyer. His focus is on criminal defence, government and internal investigations.
Schleicher is currently a partner at Maslon LLP in Minneapolis. He is also the co-chair of Maslon’s Government & Internal Investigations Group.
From 1992 to 1995, Schleicher attended Mitchell Hamline School of Law. In 1995, Steve Schleicher was admitted to the Minnesota Bar. Four years later, in 1999, he was admitted to the US District Court in Minnesota.
For thirteen years, Schleicher worked as a federal prosecutor in the US Attorney’s Office, serving as the Deputy Criminal Chief of the Special Prosecution Section (2014-2016) and as the St. Paul Branch Chief. He has also worked in military courts, having served as a JAG Corps Officer in the United States Army Reserve.

Steve Schleicher in the Derek Chauvin trial
Steve Schleicher is leading the prosecution in the trial against Derek Chauvin. Chauvin is currently facing second-degree murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter charges for the death of George Floyd.
The trial commenced on 29 March 2021 and has been broadcast online, which is unusual for an American murder case.
Schleicher led the jury selection questioning process for the prosecution and is working the case pro bono. He was appointed by Minnesota Attorney General Keith to serve on the prosecution team back in 2020.
