Who is Dr Peter Marks? FDA release a covid vaccine statement

Who is Dr Peter Marks? The FDA (US Food And Drug Administration) has today released a statement on the safety of the Johnson and Johnson covid vaccine after recent blood clotting concerns.

But who is the man behind the statement, Peter Marks? And what did the FDA covid vaccine statement say?

Who is Dr Peter Marks?

Dr Peter Marks is the of the Centre For Biologics Evaluation And Research within the FDA.

This centre is responsible for ensuring the safety of biological products, including vaccines.

He was appointed in 2016 after previously serving as Deputy Director.

Marks earned a Bachelor Of Science degree from Columbia University.

After this, he completed a PhD in Cell And Molecular Biology at New York University.

He volunteered at Mount Sinai St Luke’s in New York City as an undergraduate.

Before finishing his education, he completed training at Brigham And Women’s Hospital.

In May 2020, he was a member of the White House Coronavirus Task Force before leaving over worries it would conflict with his role at the FDA.

Marks also played a role in setting up Operation Warp Speed, a partnership between the US federal government and private companies to develop a coronavirus vaccine.

FDA statement on Johnson and Johnson covid vaccine

Today (April 13), the FDA released a statement on the safety of the Johnson and Johnson covid vaccine.

It comes after recent reports of rare blood clots.

Dr Peter Marks was joined by FDA Commissioner Dr Janet Woodcock and Deputy Director of the CDC Dr Anne Schuchat after the release of their statement.

The statement from the FDA Director says the blood clotting events that have been reported are “extremely rare.”

It goes on to say that while a review into the Johnson and Johnson vaccine is underway, they’re “recommending a pause” in the rollout of this vaccine “out of an abundance of caution.”
