Nobel Peace Prize winner and Pakistani activist Malala Yousafzai has announced she and partner Asser Malik are officially married. The campaigner shared the news on Instagram and Twitter as fans congratulated the couple on their nuptials.

Who is Asser Malik?

Asser Malik is an entrepreneur and businessman who currently serves as a high-performance general manager at the Pakistan Cricket Board.

Malik’s LinkedIn profile also states he is franchise owner and co-founder of amateur cricket league Last Man Stands.

Malik is a Lahore University graduate having received his bachelor’s degree in economics and political science in 2012.

How old is Asser Malik?

Asser Malik’s age is not publically known, although some online sites believe him to be about 30 years old. Let’s take a look…

As per his LinkedIn profile, Malik attended all boys school Aitchison College between 1998 and 2008. It isn’t known what age he started attending the school, although the Aitchison College website states the senior school is for students aged between 14 and 17-plus up to Year 13.

This would mean when Malik left in 2008, he would have been 17 or 18 years old, suggesting he was born in about 1990.

If Malik’s birth year is 1990, he would be 31 years old as of 2021, meaning he and new wife Malala Yousafzai have an age difference of about seven years.

Relationship with Malala explored

Malala Yousafzai and Asser Malik both took to social media on Tuesday, 9 November as they announced they were married. Sharing the news on Instagram, Malala shared her excitement for their next chapter together.

Captioning the post, she gushed: “Today marks a precious day in my life. Asser and I tied the knot to be partners for life. We celebrated a small nikkah ceremony at home in Birmingham with our families. Please send us your prayers. We are excited to walk together for the journey ahead.”

The couple were first spotted together with friends in a post on Instagram in June 2019. In the midst of the then ICC Cricket World Cup in England, the couple were pictured together as part of a group picture Malik uploaded to his Instagram.

It isn’t known when the couple started dating, although Malik posted about Malala once again in July as he celebrated her birthday on Twitter:

Who is Malala Yousafzai?

Malala Yousafzai is a Pakistani activist for female education who became the youngest Nobel Prize laureate in 2014.

Aged 11, Malala began campaigning for girls to receive an education, blogging about life under the Taliban in Pakistan’s Swat Valley. When she was 15, she survived being shot in the head after the Taliban tried to silence her.

After a remarkable recovery, Malala established a charity dedicated to giving “every girl an opportunity to achieve a future she chooses”.
