Businessman and entrepreneur Glen de Vries who recently went to space with Jeff Bezos, has died after a fatal plane crash on Thursday (11 November).

The Medidata Solutions co-founder travelled alongside the Amazon mogul and actor William Shatner aboard the Blue Origin’s New Shepard spacecraft last month.

As his passing is reported online, some are curious to know more about Glen de Vries’ wife and love life.

Who was Glen de Vries’ wife?

Glen de Vries is said to have been married to wife Maria Bucheimer. As per a past Daily News article, the couple tied in 2011, having met at a local bar where Maria worked and where Glen was a regular.

Not much is known of their relationship in recent years, as they were seen to prefer to keep it away from the spotlight. However, Maria has since opened up on de Vries in a statement to The Daily Beast following reports of his passing.

She told the publication: “I would just say that Glen was an amazing man, larger than life. He always seemed like a superhero to me, so smart, so talented, generous and really funny. A huge light has gone out in the world.”

Who is his partner Leah?

As the late businessman’s death was reported on Friday (12 November), Glen de Vries was said to have been dating his partner Leah before his death.

Jeff Bezos, who travelled to space alongside de Vries, mentioned his partner in a tribute on Instagram. He wrote: “Our deepest sympathies are with his partner, Leah, and all his loved ones. The world lost you too soon, Glen.”

Bezos’ girlfriend Lauren Sanchez also mentioned her in a tribute of her own as she wrote: “We got to know Glen de Vries, an incredible man, and his partner Leah last month. Leah’s love for Glen was visible every time we saw them together.

“When he took off for space she gripped my hand so tight it hurt. Thinking of that moment today with a broken heart. Our deepest sympathies go out to Leah and Glen’s family, we are so saddened by the tragic news.”
